Here we go with part II of my „How to survive a German Winter“ series. Or rather; how to survive any neverending winter, not only a German one. Part I was all about how to boost your immune systeme during this time of the year. Part II is about how to stay warm and enjoy a little spa moment with your homemade bath oil.
To make your own bath oil is super easy. There are two essential ingredients: a carrier oil and an essential oil. Or more. You can also blend several carrier oils and several essential oils. Here is how I like to make my bath oils in winter:
For 1 bath I use:
10-15 drops of essential oils such as
Orange, Litsea, Lime or YlangYlang
I like to use this blend of three different oils, but you can also use just sesame oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, argan oil, or even olive oil.
I like to use sesame oil because it is highly detoxifiyng, it can increase skin elasticity and smoothness and it can help to imrpove skin conditions, such as premature aging. Argan oil is rich with vitamin A and vitamin E. It is also packed with anti-oxidants, Omega-6 fatty acids, and linoleic acid, when applied to skin, it eases inflammation while moisturizing the skin. And finally jojoba oil actually closely resembles sebum, a waxy substance produced by our skin glands – and hence it can perfectly be used as a natural skin conditioner.
Just blend all ingredients together and add to your hot bath tub and enjoy! I really love to take hot baths in winter and they are actually one of the reasons for why I somehow like winter anyway 😉
By the way, I usually only make my bath oil for only one bath. However, you can scale up the ingredients and make more. In case you want to do that, make sure to store your bath oil in a dark (and clean!) container/bottle or if not in a dark container, store it a dark place (like a cupboard). I always use old glass bottles from my store bought body oils.
Your oils will last longer when they are not exposed to light. Whenever your oils start smelling funny and no longer as they used to in the first place, you should no longer use them. Also make sure that no water will touch your oil; water will reduce the life span of your oils.
I hope you enjoyed this simple diy. Oh and in case you have made too much oil and you want to use it up; you can also use it as a body oil. It works great both as bath oil and as body oil.
