Second Hand Pastels (and a MyOma Headband)

Time for another second hand look of mine. Even though I LOVE fair fashion and I LOVE getting in some new fair fashion items which are produced in the most fair and sustainable way possible, I still want to promote second hand fashion as much as possible.

Buying second hand still is the most sustainable way to shop. No new ressources need to be spend on second hand clothes. There are few fair fashion brands which do upcycling and which do not use any new ressources, but these are rather the exception than the norm. Most brands, also fair fashion brands, use new materials and hence, are always less sustainble than second hand clothing (correct me if I am wrong).

So that’s basically the reason for why I like to share some of my second hand looks from time to time. Like today 😉

However, I also added a new piece into this cozy outfit – a headband from the really cool brand MyOma

So what is the story about this headband? MyOma basically means „my grandmother“. Why? Because everything produced is made by grandmothers!

Unfortunatly many women in Germany, and beyond, face boredom and loniless as they get older, retire, etc. MyOma is a social enterprise that wants to help those older ladies; by giving them a job. The women can decide how much and want they want to knit and they earn money for every piece they make. So whenever you buy something from MyOma you do not only get a beautiful accessoire but you help a „Oma“ to earn some money and get some more meaning to her life. Isn’t that such a cool project?

When the product you chose arrives at your house, you actually get a hand signed picture of the lady who knitted the chosen product for you; so you can see who exactly made your specific scarfs/gloves/headband/whatever. It was so fun to open the package at „get to know“ my Oma 🙂

By the way, at MyOma you can choose both readymade designs or create your own ones. However, you should be very careful about an exact explanation of what you want, when you decide for an unique design. I made a mistake when I ordered a scarf in beautiful pastel colors (I wanted it mottled but the colors came in blocks) and now I do not like it at all. Thats such a shame, because I know so much work has been spend into making it. So in case you want to try the individual options at MyOma be super precise OR go for the DIY sets.

And now to the rest of my outfit. Remember my post on decluttering? This sweater is one of the reasons for why I do not really believe in hardcore decluttering. It has been decluttered around a year ago beacuse I did not wear it in more than a year. So it went into the fleamarkt suitcase and was left there for months… until I found it again and suddenly loved it. This happens to me aaaaall the time. So I wear this sweater like once a week now and really love its oversized shape and the sweet pastel color.

As I am really into all pastel looks, I decided to wear the sweater with my grey second hand jeans that I got around 2 years ago. Some brown boots and I was all ready. Not that much of a special outfit, but just perfect to salute the first warm days of the year (oh sunshine I missed you!). No coat needed 😉

How do you like this simple Spring look? And how do you like my headband? Isn’t the idea behind the MyOma project so cool? I would love to read your opion on it!

Have a great rest of the week and enjoy those first warm days of the year 🙂

  1. Aw, the meaning behind MyOma is so beautiful and serves such a great purpose. I can only imagine how these older women feel having been active their whole lives with work and/or raising children and making a home and when they no longer have those needs to be met, it can be hard. Allowing them to use their creativity and talents, while rewarding their efforts and work is wonderful and that headband is way too cute! Pink looks so good on you, I love that you’re wearing it often 🙂 Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a great week so far!

P.S.: Na ja, den Rahmen hat schon eher nur Aidan gemacht. Ich hab nur gesagt, wie ich es haben will…hehe.
